Have you ever wondered why people prep these days?
Why the family down the street is pulling in a bunker?
I’m going to tell you, from my account, why there over 3 million preppers in the USA alone. Yes, people think we’re crazy, that we’re just paranoid, but after you read this article you may start seeing the world in a different way.
Let me start off by saying, I became a prepper 13 years ago. I started prepping for one reason, I wanted to protect my family.
Protect my family from what, you may ask?
Our power grid is 60 years over used. It was built as a temporary power source and was supposed to be rebuilt into a permanent power source. Guess what? It still hasn’t been built. That’s right, we’re still using the temporary source. We are still using the same power grid that was supposed to only last for 20-30 years, and we’re still using it after all these years. It’s been said repeatedly that our grid should have already failed. We are 60 years over the expiration date for the grid.
“The Wall Street Journal reported in 2009 that U.S. Spy agencies were alarmed that they were seeing Russian and China cyberspies conducting surveillance on networks running the U.S. electric grid . . . “ NSA Director Warns of “Dramatic” Cyberattack in Next Decade, The Wall Street Journal, November 20, 2014
CYBER AND PHYSICAL ATTACKS
So keeping in the mind the US power grid is well over used, the fact it’s vulnerable to cyber and physical attacks only makes matters worse. The power grid is attacked at least 79 times a year, and all it would take is someone, one time pushing the key to send America into a blackout that would last for years. That’s right, not weeks or months but years! It would be a devastating blow to our civilization. We don’t only have to worry about the grid failing from over use and cyber attacks but also physical attacks as well. With the terrorist organizations today, they would do anything to bring America to its knees and they could definitely do it. Isis has already made the threat that it is coming (taking our power grid down).
18 MONTHS WITHOUT POWER
Have you ever thought about what America would be like without power? I mean without power for over 18 months? I say 18 months because the large transformers we use aren’t made in our country, they are made overseas. We have to order them. Then overseas company builds them . . . and then, the transformer is shipped to us. This process takes no less than 18 months to 2 years. Once we get the transformer, it still has to be powered up and readied for use. With all this time, it would cause major chaos: riots, looting, shortages of food and gas and . . . death. Your cars would be rendered useless, without power to run the pumps you can’t get gas. Without gas, trucks can’t haul supplies to stores. And without supplies, you are down to eating what you can scavenge. The food in grocery stores and your house would spoil because you wouldn’t have power to run your refrigerator and freezer. The food in the stores would be all that was left and it would be all you could get. When people get hungry they do anything to get food! So this brings crime way up. It’s stated by government surveys and tests, if the power went out, 80% of the population would die in the first year. The death would come by way of not being able to keep warm or cool, the inability to feed yourself or, most likely, defend yourself from others. We depend on electrical power so much, that modern society would come to a grinding halt. It’s a scary thought to think what we would face if our power grid went down.

BETTER TO BE PREPARED, THAN NOT
If you watch the news then you see everything that’s going on. Whether you acknowledge it or not, our world is on a downward spiral. Think back to 10 years ago and how far the world has sunk since then. It’s everything from terrorist attacks to natural disasters. I think and feel that everyone should be prepping. You need to ready yourself for all the things that could happen. If nothing happens then at least you were ready in case it did happen. Remember this if you don’t remember anything else from this article, its better to be prepared and not need to bugout, than it is to not be prepared and need to bugout.
I made prepping a part of my everyday life by teaching survival classes, bug-out techniques and junior survival. (I need to add also that every week my class attendance grows.) There are more and more people starting to prep every day. Just think about how bad its actually getting. You never use see commercials on TV for survival food, but you see them all the time now. I hope this article gets you to take that first step towards prepping and surviving for everything that’s heading our way. I look forward to sharing more specific survival skills and bugout techniques with you in the coming months.
